We flew into Houston and then drove to Dallas for the Breeder's Cup and to meet up with the Texas Arterburns. Sam Houston greets us along the highway between Houston and Dallas. |
We sit around Tarry and Dixie's kitchen in Dallas discussing betting strategies with Burris, Nancy, and Tarry for the upcoming Breeder's Cup. |
Nancy & Uncle B outside Tarry & Dixie's-- great Halloween decorations (the scarecrows, of course!) |
Bill, Libby, Haley, and Uncle/Grandpa B outside Lone Star Park in Dallas. As usual, we attend the races the day before the big event to get the "lay of the land". |
You can tell by their smiles that these guys are enjoying themselves. |
We had great seats for Friday's races-- pretty typical. Unfortunately, the Breeder's Cup seats were a little disappointing and it took some trading and finagling to come up with something better that was close to the rest of the Arterburn clan. |
They asked to have their pictures taken here-- real high rollers! |
The real stars of the show-- not sure which race this was but probably one of the early ones. |
Here we are in Managua boarding our bus for some sight-seeing. Ernaldo was a great driver. |
Jen, Bill, & Mimi at Lake Nicaragua before we board our boat for a tour of the lake's many islands formed centuries ago by the eruption of Mount Mombacho. |

Masaya Volcano National Park. The Spaniards called the volcano "the mouth of Hell" and placed a cross atop the crater in the 16th cantury to exorcise the Devil. |
Though the last eruption was over a hundred years ago, Masaya continues to produce steam and gas. |
William Norbourne Arterburn and William Norbourne Felten. |
We took a lunch break at Pollos Narcy's, a new restaurant. |
At Loma de Tiscapa: the silhouette of General Augusto Sandino, revolutionary leader executed in 1934 and namesake of the Sandinistas. |
A reminder of the past also at Loma de Tiscapa. |
